While it’s true that most of us own (probably several) button-down shirts, it’s one of those pieces we usually overlook. That’s because we tend to look at them as something to wear with our formal suits. The most we could think of a “hip” button-down shirt getup is when we’re going for that polished, preppy looks. This, however, is not the case. In fact, button-down shirts are one of the most versatile pieces we have in our wardrobe.
Button-Down Shirts: Wear it Whenever, However
You might be thinking: Nah! Button-down shirts were made for work or to look professional. Well, that’s true, I wouldn’t dare argue with that. But the fact of the matter is, we can actually incorporate this classy piece with our daily outfits. In other words, button-down shirts will look great in pretty much any look you can think of. Wear it with ripped denim pants? It’ll be a grungy glam look. With your trusty denim shorts and pumps? Go shopping with your friends at the mall looking oh so fab! Top it off with a leather or denim jacket and it’s the perfect outfit for a brunch with your boo.
Button Down Shirts: Plain or Printed
As I’ve earlier mentioned, button-down shirts can be worn however you like. But, of course, to keep your outfit interesting, it’s entirely up to you. You can either go for printed shirts or for plain shirts, it actually doesn’t matter. What matters is how you’d pair them with other pieces in your closet to look more fabulous. As for me, though I still often use my plain shirts, I really love wearing printed shirt as it brings more character and appeal to my getup.
Here are some of my favorite looks with button-down shirts:
Did you you like them? The best thing about these shirts is that you can wear them with your jeans, denim shorts, skirts—anything as long as they don’t clash with the color and the print of the shirt. Furthermore, you can add more character to your outfit with some jewelries and other accessories, or you can go layering with jackets and blazers.
You see there’s more to button shirts than meets the eye. With the right combination of pieces, you’ll be able to transform your shirt-based getup from boring to fab in a jiffy.
