The Power of Accessories

Just take a look at celebrities and models in the “model-off-duty” getups. Notice how basic some of their outfits were? So how come they look so glamorous? Yup, it’s all about their accessories! In fact, accessories are so powerful, they can change the look of an outfit in an instant. Do you want to look more sophisticated and elegant while just wearing denim shorts, flip-flops, plain tees? Try wearing pearl earrings and/or necklace and you’ll certainly look a lot classier. Want to transform your work clothes to an evening attire? Choosing the Perfect Accessories

Just a friendly reminder though: Keep in mind that accessories can actually make or break your entire look. Yes, choosing the wrong accessories can easily ruin an otherwise perfect outfit. That’s why when choosing accessories for an outfit, there many things to consider. To help you out, here are some points to ponder:

Color – Much like anything else, colors that does not match well together will surely be an eyesore. So if you’re wearing a colorful outfit, make sure to choose accessories with basic colors such as white and black so that they don’t clash with your outfit. However, if you’re wearing neutral colored clothes, you’ll be able to play more with accessories in different colors.

Scale – One of the golden rules of accessorizing is you should never overdo them. If, for instance, you’re wearing a patterned dress or top, I would definitely advice against wearing too much jewelries. Why? With so many patterns going on in your getup, adding too many jewelries will surely make you look tacky. Same goes with bags and other accessories.

Style – There are basically five accessory styles you should consider when thinking about adding accessories on your look. Here’s a rundown on each one of them:

  • Classic: pearl  and diamond jewelries; silk scarf; leather clutch; black pumps
  • Glam: chandelier earrings; cocktail rings; sparkly clutch; over-sized sunglasses; stilettos
  • Fun: chunky jewelries; colorful scarves; sun hats; tote bags; flip-flops; ballet flats
  • Edgy: thick cuff bracelet, choker necklace; studded handbag; black boots
  • Casual: bracelets and sports watches; satchel bags; Wayfarer sunglasses; hats and caps; sandals and sneakers

When it comes to accessories, it’s just a matter of finding the perfect balance that would work well with your outfit. As I’ve said, with the right combination, you’ll be able to make your outfit look more interesting. However, if you go overboard with it, your whole look will be a disaster. So do not go too much on accessories.
