What do these famous (and infamous) women have in common? Their obsession with shoes, of course. Though I must admit these women have taken their idée fixe with shoes several notches higher, I’m pretty sure most women are shoe possessed.

I just can’t explain it but every time I’m in a shoe store trying out a pair of pumps and whatnot, I have this euphoric feeling inside me. And when I wear my new shoes anywhere, I feel like I’m a lot more confident than before. Do you feel the same way too? I know you do.

Let’s face it—women could never have too many shoes. It’s just how we are programmed, I think, and we can’t seem to do anything about it. Sometimes, even when we’re tight for money, if we see a pair  of stilettos that we just adore, we’d go through heaven and hell just to take them home. Yup, I know, it’s that serious. What can I say? Money can’t bring us happiness, but a pair of cute flats? Now that’s pure heaven right there.

So why do most—if not all—-women love shoes so much?

Well, did you know that they have a scientific explanation for women’s obsession with shoes? Yup, in  not so recent studies, psychologists found out that whenever women shop for new shoes, our brain releases more Dopamine, a chemical that triggers feelings of pleasure and elation. This only means that an actual chemical reaction happens in our brain that gives us that feeling of pure bliss whenever we shop for a new pair of shoes—may  it be  a pair of knee-high boots,  loafers, or sandals—doesn’t really matter, it’s pure happiness, nonetheless.

Aside from the chemical reaction in our brains, researchers have found out that wearing shoes with heels actually has a psychological effect on us. Heels can actually make a woman feel more confident because they literally lift you up higher—like on a pedestal— thus make you feel like your on top of everyone else. Furthermore, walking on heels “forces” us to make our posture much better and our buttocks more prominent, therefore making us feel good about ourselves.

You see, our obsession with shoes isn’t just about style and fashion, though it plays a huge role, of course. Shoes play an integral part of our personalities and even our lives—and science has actually proven it. Thanks science!
